It was a day like any other. Mia was in school, and she was attending her once favorite class. Mia was good at sports, she never had to try, Mihaela Reveka Vladescu was a natural athlete. That was, until Gabrielle Delacroux entered the scene. She once thought that the girl was simply Sebastien sister. How stupid she was to assume. As it turned out, she was to be married to the amazing boy that haunted Mia's dreams. And now the one class Mia adored, she was forced to share with an enemy.
Dressing quickly in shorts, a tank top, and sneakers, Mia left the locker room, taking her normal place by the wall. They were playing Basketball. This was easily inferred by the nets that were in place. The class was usually split in two when sports like this came along, A to M on one team and N to Z on the other. At least I don't have to be on her team, Mia thought for a moment.
Briefly the girl nodded to the teacher as her name was called for attendance and the class was told to run laps for the warm up. Pushing herself off the padded wall, Mia jogged around the gym thinking idly about how she was going to make Gabrielle lose interest in the boy Mia wanted. She was a Princess, she should have gotten anything she wanted, right? So why was attaining Bastien Fortescue so hard?
A familiar whistle was blown and Mia stopped jogging. Taking her place on the court, in the front on the far right side, Mia waited for the others to join her. Everyone knew how the class was divided by know. With her hands on her hips she caught sight of a familiar blonde head. "Didn't know you were on this side today, Gabrielle," Mihaela said, spitting out the girl's name as if it was a foul tasting dish the cook had whipped up, something not fit for even dogs.

||Wishes I had a pretty image thing like that|| Gabrielle walked into the locker room very irritated. She was not an active girl. She hated how this new school made gym mandatory for all years, because her old school back in France only made freshmen take it. It was stupid in her opinion, and she wasn't very good at it. She wasn't much of a fan for sports, and having to play them made her hate them even more. Not only that, but Mihaela Vladescue was in her class. A Romanian Royalty who was threatening all that Gabby knew. The girl had developed a crush on Gabby's fiance, and it was obvious to anyone who saw them. What made Gabby really worried, however, was the fact that Bastien had a crush on Mia too.
Gabby changed silently, watching Mia whenever she could. Gabby was constantly on the lookout for any kind of sabotage that the princess would come up with. She wasn't naive enough to think that Mia would leave Bastien alone just because he was spoken for. Gabrielle knew that she wouldn't in her place. Bastien was handsome, nice, and everything that Gabby needed. He had money, he was a royal, and he could change her. Gabrielle wanted badly to become a true vampire, and sometimes cursed herself for being born female. It wasn't fair in her opinion that men had fangs from the start and women had to be bitten first.
Gabrielle changed into her shorts and tank-top, and regretfully into sneakers, quickly enough to trail Mia out into the gym. She chose a spot a good distance away from Mia, but kept glancing back to the girl. She had the suspicion that Mia was up to something, and she desperately didn't want to get hit when she wasn't looking. When the teacher did role call, Gabby smiled sweetly and said "Présent!" Then she instructed them to run, and Gabby rolled her eyes. She hated to run, but she did. The only reason she did was to compete with Mia, who seemed to be a great athlete. But of course she was. A princess must be perfect! she told herself bitterly.
When they finished laps, Gabby realized that she and Mia were on different sides of the court. Wanting to prove herself to Mia, she simply walked to that side. She didn't know how she could do anything, seeing as she had never actually played basketball before, but she was determined to make a statement. Gabby smiled at Mia when the girl spoke, and crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm sorry if that displeases you, Mihaela." she responded, keeping her voice sweet and hostile. She continued to give a smirk-like smile as she collected her curls and bound them up with a scrunchie. "Don't you think it'll be fun playing against me?" she asked innocently.

Mia shot Gabrielle a glare that clearly told her she was in for it. The Princess turned to Gabrielle and said in her harshest, but lowest voice, "You may have everything you want right now, and you may be able to get whatever you could imagine with the snap of your fingers. But this is my arena, Gabrielle. This isn't France." She glared at the girl, she clearly detested the sixteen year old. Gabrielle was like the gum on the bottom of her sneaker, annoying and a pain to remove once it got deep in the treads of the shoe.
The girl harbored a hatred for humans, this much was clear to just about everyone. They were once the top thing she despised about the world. But now, now she had a new number one. She went by the name of Gabrielle Zoe Delacroux. She thought she owned Sebastien, and she may have been right, if it wasn't for the fact that this was Romania, not France, Bastien had a choice. He could choose to be with Mia. Accept the scar he'd only barely seen. It occurred to Mia then that Gabby didn't know about the hideous thing.
Mihaela's hand moved to her face lightly, her smooth fingers running over the rough skin by her ear. The scar humans caused. The one Bastien didn't care about. The one Gabrielle would use against Mia. At the thought of it, the Princess' hand went to her mouth. Her teeth ached. They wanted freedom, to be let lose, to feel blood against their smooth, pearly white enamel. She could imagine the deep crimson liquid flowing into her mouth, down her throat. It only served to make the girl even more thirsty.
She was brought from her thoughts by the sound of the coach's whistle. "You don't stand a chance, Delacroux. Go back to France, where you belong," she said before shooting off toward the rest of her team.

The semi-polite manner between them broke when Mia spoke again. It unsettled Gabrielle, for she had prepared herself for a battle of words of hidden meaning. In France, the memories of being betrayed by the humans was still so fresh in her mind. Would it be wise to go around talking of such affairs. Gabrielle wondered how much the Romanians knew, that their precious Mia was in fact vampire royalty. For some reason, Gabby couldn't come to the conclusion on her own. It was easy to reason the case both ways.
Gabrielle detected the threat in Mia's voice, and she dropped her smile. Gabrielle's eye narrowed, angered at the princess's audacity. She obviously didn't know what a struggle it had been for Gabby since the death of her parents. Couldn't she see that Mia's own affections were getting in the way of what she truly wanted. Sure, the Fortescue's took care of Gabby like her parents did, letting her do pretty much what she pleased. The only thing was that her past pleasures didn't mean as much in the face of losing everything that mattered.
Gabrielle cast a loathing look around. "It is only too obvious that this is not France." she said, disdain coloring her voice. "I have news for you, Mihaela. You are no longer the only big player in this arena." she continued without missing a beat. Gabby's earlier concerns about sabotage from the princess were now proven true. Mia was going to try and steal Sebastian. Her Bastien! She may not have true adoration for the boy, but he was still rightfully hers. No matter what Mia tried to do, and no matter that in Romania, they no longer practiced arranged marriage. The Fortescue's would live by their own French traditions, even though they were exiled from France.
Gabrielle controlled the snarl she wanted to let rip at Mia. She would give anything to go back to France, if she only could! Suddenly, she felt the pressure of her fangs as they longed to get out, to be free. A little stunned by her first sign of maturity, Gabby's lips twisted into a wicked little smile. It was all she wanted, to have her fangs released and be blessed with the immortality that was hers by birth. She hadn't expected the thirst so early, but she knew the reasons why. Her life had taken a great leap for the worst, and her world was threatened.
"Oh, I wouldn't be so quick to underestimate me, Princess." Gabby warned. Her delight at the physical presence of her fangs empowered her, reminding her that she was a Delacroux. A vampire, the last of her family. She was a strong-willed soul, and she got what she wanted. Whatever she wanted. As a whistle interrupted her thoughts, she jogged to her team (the wrong team). She felt invulnerable, and that would surely do much to help and to hurt her in the future.

Mia growled, a sound deep in her throat. Gabby really was more of a threat than she had intended. The Princess brought her mind off the battle she was fighting with Gabrielle and focused on the one in Gym. Snatching the ball from one of the opposing team members, Mia dribbled the hard sphere down the court.
The sound of sneakers against the polished wood was music to her ears. This was what she was good at. This was what she adored doing, playing sports, running around in shorts and sneakers, riding her horse in competitions. This was what she was good at. So why did it feel so off? Why, as she was darting down the court with the ball, did she feel like she couldn't breathe? Everything was wrong. Everything was messed up.
Jumping the girl dunked the ball into the net. She'd scored a point, she was happy. . . or was she. A piercing whistle rang out. Mia snapped back to reality. She looked at the coach and the class. Her team mates were angry, shaking their heads. "Get your head in the game, Vladescu! You just scored for the opposing team! Go sit, your team would do better without you."
Mia looked over her team and what side of the court she was on. "Damn it!" she growled to herself. She wasn't concentrating. Mia closed her eyes as she walked over to the bleachers. Choosing a seat about three row up, Mia sat and watched her class. Her head in her hands. Her thoughts drifted until she heard that voice again.
